What is BSSC – Bihar Staff Selection Commission

Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) is a state government body responsible for recruiting candidates for non-gazetted Group C posts under the Bihar Government. It is headquartered in Patna, Bihar. BSSC conducts the Inter Level Examination for 12th pass candidates and the Graduate Level (CGL) Examination for graduates. The Inter Level exam is one of the largest Group C recruitment drives in Bihar with over 25,000 vacancies announced in the 2026 cycle.

Unlike BPSC which recruits for officer-grade Gazetted posts, BSSC recruits for clerical and administrative support posts. BSSC posts offer stable government employment with regular increments, DA and HRA benefits. How to Prepare for BSSC Inter Level 2026

  1. Focus on Bihar GK: Bihar-specific history, geography, culture and current affairs are heavily tested in both Prelims and Mains Paper II. This is the biggest differentiator among similarly prepared candidates.
  2. Strengthen Maths and Reasoning: Paper II carries 600 marks and Maths plus Reasoning together form a large scoring portion. Use RS Aggarwal for both. Practice daily time-bound sets to build speed.
  3. Build NCERT Foundation: General Studies and General Science questions are based on 10+2 level. NCERT books from Class 9 to 12 for Science and Class 6 to 10 for History, Geography and Polity cover the base well.
  4. Follow Current Affairs: Read daily news and maintain monthly current affairs notes. Focus on Bihar state government schemes, appointments and recent developments — these appear regularly in GK sections.
  5. Prepare Hindi Seriously: Mains Paper I (General Hindi, 400 marks) must be cleared with minimum 30% for your Paper II to be evaluated. Strong Hindi grammar and comprehension skills are essential.
  6. Understand the Negative Marking: Prelims has 1 mark negative for wrong answers on 4-mark questions — a wrong answer costs 5 marks net swing. Attempt only questions you are reasonably confident about.
  7. Solve Previous Year Papers: Solving BSSC Inter Level previous year papers helps identify recurring question types and topic weightage. Visit our Bihar Previous Year Papers page for access.
