How to Prepare for BPSC CCE 2026

  1. Build NCERT Foundation: Start with NCERT books from Class 6 to 12 for History, Geography, Polity, Economy and Science. These form the core of the BPSC Prelims General Studies paper.
  2. Master Bihar GK: BPSC consistently tests Bihar-specific topics — History of Ancient and Medieval Bihar, Bihar Geography, Bihar Economy, Bihar Government schemes and current affairs. This is often the differentiating section among candidates with similar GS preparation.
  3. Follow Current Affairs Daily: Read a reliable newspaper daily and maintain notes on national and Bihar-specific current events. BPSC Prelims regularly includes questions on recent government schemes and Bihar development programmes.
  4. Understand the New OMR Pattern: BPSC has introduced Option E (“Not Attempted”) on the OMR sheet. You must shade Option E to skip a question intentionally — leaving a row completely blank now attracts 1/3 negative marking, same as a wrong answer. Only attempt questions you are reasonably confident about.
  5. Practice Answer Writing for Mains: BPSC Mains is descriptive. Daily answer writing practice is essential — focus on structured answers, relevant facts and Bihar-specific examples in GS papers.
  6. Solve Previous Year Papers: Solving BPSC previous year papers from recent CCE cycles helps identify high-frequency topics and Bihar GK patterns. Visit our Bihar Previous Year Papers page for access.
  7. Choose Optional Subject Early: Your optional subject carries 300 marks in Mains. Choose based on your graduation background, scoring potential and available study material. Do not delay this decision.

Best Optional Subjects for BPSC CCE 2026

BPSC CCE Mains includes one optional subject paper of 300 marks. Choosing the right optional is critical as it can significantly impact your final rank. Below are commonly chosen optional subjects with their key characteristics.

Optional Subject Best For Key Advantage
History Arts graduates Overlaps with GS I — Ancient, Medieval and Modern India including Bihar history
Geography Science / Arts graduates Overlaps with GS I and GS II — Indian and Bihar geography frequently tested
Political Science Arts / Political Science graduates Overlaps with GS II — Polity, Constitution and Governance
Sociology Arts graduates Relatively static syllabus, good scoring potential for dedicated candidates
Public Administration Any graduate Directly relevant to administrative roles — good overlap with GS II topics
Economics Commerce / Economics graduates Overlaps with GS II — Economy, Agriculture and Bihar development data

* Optional subject selection should be based on your graduation background, interest and available study material. Consistent preparation matters more than subject choice alone.
